The view to the west in the bedroom

The Clock Tower is a small one bedroomed detached cottage set to the rear of the main house on the Barton Court estate, facing in an east/west direction.

The entrance door opens directly into the sitting room from the path. This is a cosy space with comfy seating and a table to eat or work at.

From there, a corridor leads to the ground floor shower room, with loo, basin and power shower, and the well equipped kitchen.

The original dog door opens into the enclosed dog run: ideal if you have your dog with you or handy for direct access to the hot tub and patio area.

Back in the sitting room, a staircase rises into the open plan bedroom, a light and airy room with an ensuite loo and basin.

From the kitchen, a glazed door leads to the rear garden.

its history

The Clock Tower

The Clock Tower

This bijou little brick and stone 18th century cottage, part of the estate of Barton Court on the edge of the village of Colwall between Ledbury and Malvern, was once the home of the head gardener, his two favourite dogs and his ferrets.

One of his duties was to keep the clock wound and accurate so every week he would climb the ladder in the bedroom up to the housing and wind the mechanism that keeps it working. It is still accurate now and chimes every quarter but we use it rarely because the ticking is so loud it would wake our guests!

One of his additional tasks was to ensure that the foxhounds were kept clean after their muddy excursions across the fields. To help with that, a hound wash was created as part of the building and can still be seen built into the foundations and underneath the bespoke ferret cages today.

its location

The view from the bedroom

The house is close to but separate from the main house that is part of the Barton Court estate. The property, itself, lies on the edge of the village of Colwall, between Ledbury and Malvern and so is on the border of the two counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Very easy to get to by road (the motorway network is about 3 miles way) and rail (there are direct trains to London, Birmingham and Bristol in the village, it is private but not isolated.

It is on the doorstep of the Malvern Hills, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, that attracts walkers, cyclists and lovers of the outdoors from all over the world.
